So you decided to check your AC system due to not cold air blowing, potentially after a few hours of idle running your Chevy Cobalt. This post cover what sitting running the Cobalt in the morning and noon hours does to your cold air.

The problem is that after about 2 hours in the hot sun the system will over heat and stop blowing cold. Especially if parked for about 2 or 3 hours.
FIX: turn on fan at full 4 and drive while turn off the yellow AC light button with a snowflake on it for about 5 to 10 minutes
so the system can cool off.
You can also turn off the car for a while but getting air flow into the engine compartment works well. Not sure if it is the system or the freon in the system.
You'll notice the system slowly cools down over time eventually as in right before it completely gives up and pumps 'warm' air it will be not so cold anymore for about 10 minutes I guess. Then appear to have a sudden catastrophic failure and just dead air. So just drive. Seems to work to turn it off briefly and drive with fan only. Few minutes later turn on AC be cold as before as expected.
Could be low freon. Or freon leak. Or ac Parts needed to fix leak or actuator or entire motor compressor or just belt drive rebuild or a belt so you can go get a drain and refill or buy a refill can and DIY refill
CAUTION:
but don't touch your system yourself its cold liquid under pressure and highly toxic. Read instructions and video on low and high ports for your car how to refill freon and type needed. Is easy but also can be dirty and go sideways on you with no real way to know if put to much in or bubble etc... you can ruin your system.
I bought blaster R134a with pang. See autozone and home depot has a tube to do it yourself.
