Chevy Cobalt Airbag Fuse Location

Chevy Cobalt Airbag Fuse Location

So you decided to locate the fuse for the chevy cobalt airbag.

A fuse is a plastic thing that has a metal band in the middle of it.  Fuses come in a variety of shapes types and designs and some are 10 amp, 15 amp, 20 amp, but the color doesn't matter often in car applications I would say.  As there are spare fuses in your box(s) right now.  Be sure it is the same amp.

If the metal band is broken in the middle your fuse is dead.  If your airbag fuse is dead get another fuse.  To check it pull it out and look at it in your hand from the side.  See the green fuses in the picture below for what a bad (or "blown") fuse looks like.

The airbag fuse is a 10 amp fuse in the passenger side console fuse panel.
Also called the "Body Control Module"  or BCM.
Fun fact the owners manual shows this panel upside down and about 50% larger with more fuses than actually exist.  I guess it is the lower portion, not sure.

To access the panel you need to pull off the trim cover down by the foot well on the passenger side of the middle console.  There are metal clips holding it in place so you need to yank on the panel to reveal the fuse panel inside the 2005 chevrolet cobalt.

HOW TO REMOVE:
Use a plier or a wrench or any grasping type of tool.  You can just pull on it yourself.

Why would you remove the airbag fuse?
1.)  If taking off the front bumper.
2.) If working around the steering wheel.
3.) The seat belt has an actuator in it and if it goes off the airbag pops.

Additional Similar Info:
There is another fuse box under the hood as well.  It is on the driver side in a large black box.  Has fuses and relays.  The black square shown in the picture above is a relay.  They turn on and off or open a circuit or close it not sure exactly not a mechanic or electrician but if it does nothing at all it is dead so listen for a click (put a finger on it) if say your fuel pump dies may be the relay.

This is a link to a post here on all the fuses and relays in both places on the cobalt, click the link and see the bottom image for a color coded image from manual showing the location of all fuses and relays and what they are used for.

Here are the last images from that post.  Shows which are the spare fuses in top left.

The picture above is upside down (is from the manual) I know this because the picture below is of the actual panel and also the bottom half of the panel (below) is not there (seen in the picture above).
So, then 1 fuse above the Yellow Arrow (in the top picture) is where the actual panel stops; which is half the panel missing.  Meaning, it is relay #30 on the right (pictured below), and those other 2 relays (in the image above) don't exist.  You'll see once you flip the top picture or bottom and compare.  Meaning turn it from the bottom at 6 o'clock over to 12 o'clock.
Airbag fuse is in the middle.  The red (10) above the large red panel in the middle is Airbag #13 fuse.
