Remove Front Bumper & Lip Chevy Cobalt

How to remove the front bumper, and lip on a Chevy Cobalt.

The "lip" is the lower plastic on the bottom of the bumper that you rub on things like curbs.

So you decided to remove the front bumper and lip on your 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt 2.2L Engine Sedan.

1.) Take off the headlights (2 bolts) and brackets (4 bolts plus the driver side has a plug in the bottom of the bracket) do this so that you can reach the corner fender bolts holding the bumper and the fender together, also my fender splash shield has no forward attachments just holes.  This helped me to reach a hand in and turn the bolts with my socket.  Can be done without doing it that way by just reaching into the empty headlight area.

The bumper bolts (3) are located in the top far corner in a plastic bracket.  There are also I think 2more bolts under the bracket but you don't have to remove those.  Part of fender I guess.  The front bolt and next bolt are 10mm socket, and the last bolt is also 10mm but the bracket has nothing to do with it really and it has a slightly abnormal larger base I guess you can say, than normal bolts.

2.)...

it  goes, splash guards - bumper lip,- bumper when take apart reinstall.
recommend power drill for the screws in the front lip, which you dont need to undo, just the side bits in the far corner of the bumper by the wheel well.  not sure how many 3 might do it seems right, the middle 6 screws can stay if leaving the lip on.
front bumper lip on bottom
the lip is inside on top of the bumper so if on ground looking up you see large bumper then lip is inside that resting on it, and you attach screws, and bolts, and plastic push clips to secure it to the bumper.
there are 6 screws in the front 4 center, then the bar dips down, and there are1 each side of that (driver and passenger side screws)
that bar has an indent that is rectangular like an egg crate, and that rests against the actual bumper; facing down, so it is like a finger on the lower shield part is pushing up against the bumper to keep it at the right distance.
there is a tiny screw hole and screw on the passenger side.
there are 2 holes at the very end facing upwards like all the rest, but one is a bolt with a washer at the end and the other a screw with a washer and there is also a third that is a push in plastic clip.
so it is actually easy to remove this lip, just undo the stuff.  i reattched from the front first, screwing each screw into the metal sandwich bracket with a cycleon rising up from it the screw goes through.
So the screw is a phillips and has a large flat head (like a washer) the screw is small though and that flat head screws right up on the bumper, the shaft goes through the bumper plastic and catches on the metal bracket inside that is attached to the lip.
once the 6 screws in the front are on, the rest of the lip is just linin gup the holes with the other plastic.
there is a the lower splash guard on the passenger side that is 2 and need to be fitted together aloe with the bumper and lip not so much.  on the driver side there is nothing more to undo or reattach, since the one splash shield in the wheel weel, looking forward lug nut height, is behind a hole when it should be in front of it.
broke a clip off the inside splash guard has a flat part then up front raises up towards the engine and does the same running backwards towards passenger.
USED THE 2ND rear push clips to mount the serp belt splash guard 3 of them.
--to remove the front bumper.
there are 2 push clips with middle retainer plastic bars, you need to lift the bar so the clips can be pulled out.  they are located in the front middle attached to the bumper lower most part.  there are 2 holes in the bumper, and then there are the 2 plastic tabs facing inwards so that when the bumper is replaced and mounted the tabs are resting on the bumper and just need to be pushed clipped to secure.  then undo the 3 outside corner bolts on each side attaching the bumper to the front fender.
there is a long plastic bracket that is rainbow shaped sort of banana shaped, and only fits either left side or right side.  that plastic bracket has 2 bolts one in the front towards the bumper as in wheel rolling forward more rolling forward or actually top side of the outer most bumper to fender connection.
then there is another bolt (#2) in the middle of that bracket, finally there is a 3rd bolt at the end of the bracket but doesn't need the bracket and has a large circular base to the bolt so is different.  that just screws into the fender by itself.
i was able to use the small power drill with an extension mid size one, also using a 10mm socket and an adapter, but a regular wrench ratchet wont fit in the space.
so make sure the bumper is lined up with the top side of the fender and bottom wheel well line of the fender so it si a smooth line when you walk past the wheel well there is no overhanging, it is not too high or low.
there are then 4 plastic push pins clips in the top of the bumper right where you look when you open the hood along that first ridge they have a washer design with a small circle in the middle, lift up the circle and remove them.  then just raise the bumper over the 2 plastic large circular bumps and it should slide off the bumper with its foam.  1 person job.
there are 2 more clips in the lower corner where the headlights are and they are smaller than those 4 tops one but same design in each corner is one, but those are just to help remove the headlight and can be left alone, they attach the bumper to the middle insert plastic black sheet on top.
so that is all.
1.) 3 corner bolts each side.

2.) 2 plastic retainer clips in the middle on the bumper. (you need to be on the ground to see and remove them.

3.) Top plastic retainers.
[side note] those 2 larger plastic turn knobs are for adjusting how the hood rests on the car.  turn up or down to adjust hood alignment.
