You need an AC Tech to drain the system.  Don't do it to the air will ruin the environment.  You can hook up a system to capture it, then refill it after changing but if the levels are wrong will not run properly.

This has a "clutch" which is the black thing in the front.  If the magnetic parts in that go bad you can replace just that while on the vehicle.  Or the entire compressor can be replaced.

This is a large thing about the size of a football.  Hooks onto the automatic belt tensioner, at the bottom of the engine with the Alternator above on the belt.
