So you decided to refill your AC.
It is 09/16/2026 and I had to refill the AC it was not cold enough today and yesterday.
After a can of refrigerant to refill it myself from the auto parts store it was cold again.
Was less than 3 months ago in July I had to refill the AC during the hot summer. It was like it was today not cold enough until a refill.
So three months in the summer heat is the schedule. July, August and September.
Making the next refill in November if it stayed hot till then everyday.
Remove the cover on engine by taking off oil cap, then lift it up. There is a mount point front right and back left they are posts holding it down.
Find the black cap on the AC low port line the metal tube its popping out of near the yellow dipstick and attach the hose of the can with the AC on full inside the car.
The 2005 Cobalt low side AC port cap.
See other pics for exact location.
The can will get cold if its working.
Using the can pictured it will pop up and stop when pressure in line forces it closed i guess. The can is auto stop meaning needs to be pressed down like a spray paint can but the unique cap here will rise up to close the can eventually. I guess. Only needed about a half can or less.
While refilling and the can is cold flip the can over and over right side up then upside down and back for whatever web site reason I read long ago to do that.
Wear gloves (glasses) as the port can leak green goo and you need to get the tube "off the port" and also on port if you do it more than once or struggle to get it on and goo leaks out of port. Might be clean job or be all over your hand and can by time get it all done.
The unique can pictured has a pull back port attachment hose connector so you have to pull on it while also pushing it forward to pop it on the line then release the attachment. Mine didn't want to seat properly at first hence the goo. Looked on but I knew it wasn't. Last time was easier with a different can but same unique brand. I couldn't find it to use other half. New one cost $30.
The black spin cap is here. Left to loosen right to tighten.
Also replace oil cap so oil doesn't fly out during this refill.
